Time management techniques
What time management techniques will work the best for you? Read our article to learn how to become more effective. To help you planning and controlling how much time to spend on specific activities we have prepared for you the most useful techniques:
- Plan ahead to avoid time time-wasters - simply write down as many ways to overcome your time waster as possible, for example, consider the time you spend on social media or watching TV. Put your ideas in the visible place to stay on track.
- Prioritize your tasks smartly - decide which are really important things in your life and focus on them when you are “on fire”, then “at 70%” and finally “slowing down”. You can find it out by drawing hourly blocks on the piece of paper. Some people are early birds and the other night owls.
- Do not focus on non-essential tasks - to learn what are your priorities, make a list of your tasks and give each different amount of points (e.g. from 10 to 100). That will help you to see your most important things to do.
- Deal with distractions - for example, the mess on your table or in the room, all necessary things you need to work, doing one thing at a time. Recognize all distractions in your life, write them down and specify your personal strategies to overcome them, e.g. time limits, setting reminders on the mobile, using sticky notes, etc.
- Include breaks between tasks in your planning - it’s very important to have short and effective breaks but sometimes we may not realise how surprisingly quickly time flies. Just do a quick exercise, close your eyes, think about something but do not count! Then open your eyes once you think a minute is up. Opening your eyes at different time will show you that we may easily lose time sense.
- Track your time and set a deadline - you may do a simple task to see whare you lose your time, prepare a page with 24 squares that represent the 24 hours of the day and fill it out with your routine activities. This way you may see what needs to be increased, reduced or eliminated to improve productive time management.
Remember, we all have the same amount of hours a day. By applying the timemanagement techniques in your life, you may improve your effeciency, stop being busy and become more satisfied with your actions.
