Our temperaments and the way we acquire knowledge
07/20/2020There are four most popular temperaments. Two located on the extroverted side: choleric and sanguine, and those on the opposite, introverted side: phlegmatic and Melancholic. Temperament has quite an impact on our lives, personality and behavior. It also affects the way we absorb knowledge!
Awareness and understanding of one's temperament will help find our pain points and deal with them, finding the best way for us to learn.
Choleric- set yourself a goal
A person with a choleric temperament likes to do a lot of things at once. He wants to be the best in all areas, and he also wants to absorb a lot of information. And this is great, as it is useful to be knowledgeable in many areas.
However, a problem can arise when a choleric wants to become an expert in a particular field. When it's hard to focus one's attention on a given topic for a long time, assimilating a large amount of knowledge can be a tough nut to crack.
In such a case, setting goals and achieving them is recommended. Challenges are something chocoholics like-and how! Dividing a long learning process into modules and treating them as a kind of challenge can positively motivate.
Sanguinarians- be proactive
People with this temperament are typical extroverts. They like the attention of others and are driven by interpersonal contacts. They are often active, talkative and "all over the place."
Learning through group work is a great choice-as sanguinarians will get the most out of such interactions. They can test their skills live, make mistakes, learn lessons and grow.
It is also important to diversify the ways of learning. Probably each of us remembers from school at least one such person who took part in every extra activity, while often coming to class unprepared. For sanguinarians, it is important that the learning process itself be connected with fun, that it be a surprise. That is why it is sometimes so difficult for them to motivate themselves to work during the school routine.
Melancholic- organize the space and analyze in depth
When working or studying, most people with a melancholic temperament value a detailed schedule and sticking to a plan, the ability to think analytically, and peace of mind. Therefore, it is worthwhile to review the training material carefully and create your notes. Such content will meet your requirements, and using it will be pure pleasure.
The fact is that melancholics rarely have problems with learning, and their performance is often high-this is due to a calm approach, in-depth analysis.
Phlegmatic- act at your own pace
Phlegmatics, that is, people who are calm, patient and compliant. They like to work at their own pace, then the results of their work are most effective. However, this does not mean that participation in group activities is not for them- phlegmatics like to live well with everyone, they are wary of conflict, so brainstorming or working in a group with them can be fruitful.
Phlegmatics, like melancholics, like when the learning process is planned in advance and, importantly, when we stick to this plan. It is therefore worthwhile then to take advantage of various types of training courses that are conducted by professionals.
It's also worth thinking about a reward system-it can motivate you to work accordingly.
And sure, the above tips are a big generalization, but I encourage you to get to know your temperaments-which, by the way, are often a mix of several of the above-and understand the processes within us. Think of it as another step toward developing emotional intelligence.
