Graphics, graphics - it's here! - part 1

05/06/2020

When preparing materials for workshops, whether remote or on-site, it is a very good idea to embellish our teaching aids with all kinds of imagery. Various photos or graphics not only help in the learning process itself (thanks to the image, we can easily communicate the issue, according to the principle that a picture expresses more than a thousand words), but also make our presentations more attractive to the audience. Well-chosen graphic content combined with our substantive content is a sure way to ensure that our lectures will be fully understood and assimilated, and will leave a very good impression on the participants.

We have for you a compilation of useful applications that are databases of free graphic files that will fulfill the tasks described above!

  • Pixabay is a community of creative people, distributing copyright-free images and videos. All content is made available under the Pixabay License, allowing them to be used without question and without attribution of authorship, even for commercial purposes.
  • Piviso is a free database of interesting image files and photos. The categorized way the content is arranged allows the user to find what he or she is most interested in. Pivsio also offers short video clips for free and free use (under Creative Commons Zero) and sounds for free use. The latter are not available under CC, but under a license for free use and remix, but without redistribution rights (i.e. that we can use them in our work, but cannot distribute the originals themselves for download).
  • Pexels is another very interesting platform with a wide range of free photos and graphics. In my opinion, the selection of content is the most interesting of those presented, and the assignment of topics under appropriate categories definitely helps in finding content of interest.
  • Unsplash is an excellent source of image files used by customers around the world. In addition to the basic categorization into subject categories, as with other such databases, a new category has been added in this day and age: "work from home". A great idea as many people are looking for just this type of graphics to promote their services in a remote formula.
  • StockSnap has a wide database of graphics and photos in its resources. With the standard categorization of topics, an interesting option is the "trends" tab, suggesting to its users ready-made solutions in accordance with the currently prevailing "dresscode".

In the following descriptions, we will introduce you to the next "portion" of platforms we have collected containing free, usable graphic files(entry here).
