Digitization - the reality of "Post Covid"

01/21/2022

It should be made clear that the COVID-19 pandemic affected the labor market greatly. This "black swan" was a kind of litmus test showing the "kitchen" of any company's work, i.e. normal administrative processes. Under sanitary restrictions, work in its lion's share moved to the Internet. Many processes, therefore, also had to be reflected in this reality. Applications, databases or comprehensive enterprise management platforms, have definitely become the tools most coveted by entrepreneurs. The situation has outlined an important conclusion: "Regular processes are not efficient enough." In response to this crucial issue, many consulting and training companies offer services related to the digitization process. In the case of mostly stationary work, as was the case in previous years, the automation of processes has, as it were, blurred with the ability to "get along" on issues with quick personal contact.

Competencies "Covid Adopted"

Remote work has raised the importance of competencies such as organizing one's own work, or the ability to combine professional and non-work duties at the same time - here we especially refer to parents who have landed in sanitary confinement together with their children.
Virtually every employee who has faced the challenge of carrying out their tasks from the comfort of their own home overnight has had to face the necessity of learning (often independently) a number of programs that enable reporting, saving databases or remote meetings. Remote work brings with it not only changes in the area of digital "conversion." It is also a change in the attitude of employees towards this type of work performance. Everyone is different, and it is obvious that some people will be very happy with this type of necessary change, while others will be quite the opposite. Total self-organization, working from home are factors that will work demotivatingly, which directly affects the efficiency of work. Every entrepreneur wants to use the potential and uniqueness of each employee. Our brain works here with Maslow's ladder principle. If our lower-level needs - i.e. comfort, a sense of security - are not satisfied, there is no way to have higher-level activity such as the aforementioned creativity. It is worth emphasizing here how important is the aspect of simply convincing employees of the process. Training companies that emphasize the psychological aspects of approaching the digitization process are definitely those whose offerings are worth considering.

SME sector

According to the Siemens Financial Services survey, the level of automation in the SME sector was increased by 35.2% of surveyed entrepreneurs in these sectors, and decreased by 1.5%; in 59.1% it remained the same. Even more companies wanted to raise the level of automation of production processes in the next 12 months - 44.5%. One can clearly see the trend and the dynamics of the digitization process in the SME sector, which at this point seems completely inevitable. The sanitary situation related to the epidemic will normalize over time - this is certain, but the digitization of business operations and the more distributed nature of work will already be permanently inscribed in the canon of normal practices. In time, the golden mean between remote work and stationary work will most likely be established. This combination seems highly desirable, as it represents the optimal mix between the human natural need to interact with one another and the opportunities offered by process automation for communication and normal, day-to-day operations of businesses.
