More hands on work

08/11/2021

According to the job barometer, prepared by the Department of Economics and Finance of UITP in Rzeszow and the Bureau of Investment and Economic Cycles, the number of job offers published on the Internet has increased tremendously. In July this year, it recorded the first increase since 1999 of more than 300 points.

Rebuilding

As analysts point out, the number of listings published online is higher now than before the pandemic. This has been influenced by the private sector. As sanitary restrictions loosened in the wake of the pandemic, many businesses began to make up for their losses resulting directly and indirectly from the lockdown. Clearly, new hands on deck, and thus new jobs, are needed to make up for the losses. In addition, consumers, who, for example, were able to start dining out in restaurants again, began to screw up domestic demand, and in a "hungry" way. Interestingly, the new jobs were also influenced by the shift of many companies' business to online mode. The percentage of remote job opportunities in many industries has increased as much as threefold over the past year.

The specter of uncertainty

The specter of uncertainty in the job market has emerged with the start of the fourth wave of infections. We are already seeing it in some countries, and it's quite likely that in September or October this year we too will face new sanitary restrictions. We already know it - a decline in economic activity. The ever-increasing inflation and the continuing shortage of raw materials, with respect to previous lockdowns, are also dangerous. These have resulted in ever-present troubles in supply chains. The period of the fourth wave falls during the vacation and vacation season. This is, after all, a time of increased seasonal work. Many industries, due to the usually warm climate, expand significantly during this period. Collectively, this can be defined by the fact that human activity increases when it is warm and pleasant outside.

Recruitment? Where

If we exclude the obvious and the aforementioned seasonal jobs, then in July 2021, online job-related announcements increased in every province. The largest numbers were in the West Pomeranian, Subcarpathian and Opole provinces, while the smallest were in the Lower Silesian, Świętokrzyskie and Silesian provinces. The largest increase in jobs was in the broadly manual labor sectors. The smallest, on the other hand, was in the technical-tight labor sectors. They also have the largest shortages. There are many factors that contribute to this state of affairs. We are in a time of a kind of industrial revolution, which has been forced in part by lockdown. Remote work, for example, requires many new technological solutions to support it.

Compared to before the pandemic, there are more offers almost everywhere. The decline is only seen in the public sector, sales, and corporate purchasing. In the latter two categories, among the possible factors for the declines, we can highlight the reduction in the volume of offline purchases during periods of economic freezing, and the scarcity of certain strategic raw materials and the consequent increase in their prices.
