Full automation of recruitment processes. An interesting topic - requiring careful analysis

06/09/2021

While following the HR market, I came across a topic about an interesting yet puzzling phenomenon in the HR environment. We are talking about chatbots and voicebots in the recruitment process. Virtual "unmanned" HR professionals can recruit, coordinate internal communications, and train employees. This is another step toward automating HR processes. Specialists in this field have their hands full in today's world and undoubtedly employee market. Will this solution help modern HR?

Automation

The main concern of many employers is certainly the fact that there is a shortage of manpower. The very attitude and approach to it nowadays is completely different than at least a decade ago. Young people live in a fast-paced world full of consumption, where possession has entered the canon of values and that with a place "on the box", or "podium" - possession. Amidst all this barrage of recruitment duties among HR professionals, the use of virtual assistants for the aforementioned processes seems to be an interesting solution. Although they are primarily associated with call centers, chatbots and voice assistants are equipped with many more useful functions. The rapid growth in the use of artificial intelligence in business and everyday life is evidenced, for example, by the funds that are allocated each year for its development. Stanford University has published a report - Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2021 - which shows that last year nearly $68 billion was spent on the goal of developing artificial intelligence globally, up 40 percent from 2019.

Virtual assistants are already capable of handling virtually all repetitive HR processes. There are mainly two areas into which we can divide them. External, i.e. recruitment of new employees, and internal, i.e. employees. While the latter is an excellent solution, supported not only by virtual assistants, but also by multifunctional tools that perfectly compliment human work, the issue of recruitment requires a human factor. Recruitment is, after all, nothing more than creating a relationship with another human being, and a team working together as a group. In our opinion, it is not feasible to completely automate the recruitment process. It is impossible to automatically assess at least the motivation for work. It is possible to read the answer to a question about motivation, placed in a questionnaire by a candidate for a given position, but this will certainly not replace that "gleam in the eye" when a person talks about motivation, passions, etc. These questions are very important if we are moving in the area of so-called soft competencies. So what do we think o chatbots and voicebots will be suitable for?

Rational use

Assisted by fully automated solutions, they can be a very effective solution to support human activity. They can both operate a hotline for candidates, as well as independently contact people who have sent their applications to verify that they definitely meet all the criteria from the job offer. In-house communications will also find excellent uses for them, from handling employee inquiries about in-house development paths or those regarding benefits management, to IT support, to conducting training to introduce new employees to the company.

In everything, as in life, it is important to keep the right rational proportions. This is no different in this case either.
