Acquisition of talent for the company

11/20/2020

These days, our heads are often occupied with issues of pandemics and their effects. How to maintain a business, how to provide security for employees, even offering the possibility to work remotely. How not to lose a source of income.... Uncertainty, reorganizations, layoffs. Increasingly there is talk of a returning era of the employer. But even now, companies need talent as their growth force.

How to identify talent?

A common misconception is that talent only fits into a given age framework. Some recruiters look hard for talent among young staff. Others, on the other hand, believe that being too young and inexperienced has not yet allowed an employee to develop. And yet such an uncut diamond, thanks to the support of a manager, will develop and improve its qualifications, becoming a real treasure for the company.
Increasingly, companies are using advanced IT tools to discover valuable talent. This is hard to do with just an interview. Some recruiters conduct tests, identifying a candidate's strengths and weaknesses.
However, practice shows that real verification occurs only during daily work. That's why companies introduce special programs, based on a system of internships, thanks to which new employees can get to know the tools, work system and feel the atmosphere in the team, while managers can assess, for example, the speed of learning, ability to cooperate, deal with stress or creativity.

According to the Gallup Institute's Talent Test, there are 34 different talents, helping to improve professionally.

achievement, activating, flexibility, analyzing, organizing, principled, commanding, communicative, competitive, interdependent, contextual thinking, consideration, developing others, discipline, empathy, impartial, directing, creating a vision, congruence, exploring, integrating, individualizing, collecting, intellectualism, learning, maximizing, optimism, intimacy, responsibility, fixing, self-confidence, reverence, strategy building, spell

Tools such as SAP SuccessFactors have been developed to help identify and manage talent. It allows employees to identify at least their own goals and preferences, while managers offer insight into this information.
SAP Success Factors includes a number of modules:

  • Employee Central - a collection of data and information about employees
  • Performance & Goals - measures employee performance, sets goals and ways to achieve them
  • Succession & Development - manages the development of employees, through a plan for building their competencies
  • Compensation - effective motivation, creating employee compensation models
  • Learning - organization and implementation of training, with mechanisms for evaluating results and progress
  • Recruiting - organization of a fast, efficient and effective recruitment process
  • Onboarding - a platform for introducing employees to the company, allowing to define all the necessary stages of apprenticeship and the level of their assimilation by the employee
  • Workforce Planning & Analytics - planning the composition of teams in terms of required competence, experience and availability
  • JAM Collaboration - is used to exchange information between employees. It serves as an intranet and the company's internal social media channel

How to retain talent in the company? Thinking about the future

Although we rather rarely realize it, it is much harder to keep a talented employee in a company than to discover his talent. This is what benefit systems like access to private medical care, a sports card or healthy snacks are offered for. Let's remember that this aspect of employment is still important in many companies, although it has been overshadowed by the changes caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Thinking about talent development cannot be short-term.
The most important thing is to provide opportunities for professional development. A good manager will not only discover talent, but will also plan such a development path for it to enable the employee's competencies to be enhanced and ensure that they are realistically utilized.
