Quiz applications - interesting supplement to the lesson

04/15/2020

In today's post, we'll look at other tools to make online lessons more interesting. The quiz is a very useful form of checking the knowledge of participants before and after classes, but it can also be used in a very effective technique for diagnosing the state of assimilation of information of participants during classes. Such a procedure allows to check the involvement of listeners, but also to raise its level. It also allows the lecturer to "make" necessary corrections to the "live" program so that each participant gets the most out of the class. Let's take a look at some of the most popular of these applications.

Each of them offers slightly different functions and experience to users and users. Therefore, often one tool is better suited to a certain age group or to different educational methods. I think that quizzes are a great way to collect information about the course of education, the selected target group, which is why I strongly recommend: look at these tools, analyze their functions in terms of your own needs.

  • Kahoot is a website, but also an application to download for tablets and smartphones of both most popular systems (Android and iOS). It allows you to create simple quizzes or surveys (but only up to 4 answers). You can make them more attractive with movies and also music from your own song library. Questions must be presented on a projector or a separate screen, and the answers are given by clicking on the appropriate answer symbol on the smartphone. Kahoot is by far the most colorful and dynamic application prepared for use at school or while having fun. In addition, we have the opportunity to use quizzes authored by others, making them great for, for example, learning foreign languages.
  • Similarly to Kahoot, in the Quizizz application we can create our own quizzes for free or use other publicly available and created by other users. What distinguishes Quizizz, however, is the ability to add memes as a response to responses and ask "homeworks" with a specific expiry date. We can create quizzes with up to 5 answers, single or multiple choice. Compared to Kahoot, Quizizz offers much more extensive school options: integration with Google Classroom and Edmodo, and even sending results by email (e.g. to a parent). If you are planning only simple quizzes then Quizizz will be useful not only in the classroom but also for classes with adults. The application does not require showing questions on the projector screen and is partly available in Polish.
  • Menimeter is the most extensive tool of the ones presented in this article, but very intuitive for both the person creating the quiz and the recipient himself. When answering, questions and answers are displayed on the phones of the participants, so that tasks can be carried out without a projector in the room or remotely (e.g. during webinars). The definite advantages of the application include: a very large selection of questions and interactive additions to make our exercise more attractive.
  • Socrative a powerful tool for conducting online quizzes in real time and more. In the free version we can use the accommodation room, up to 50 participants! The platform allows us to create multiple and multiple choice tests, quizzes, questions like "rate on a scale of 1-10" etc. A unique Socrative feature is the "Space Race" mini-game, which allows us to display the race of avatars of people or groups participating on the screen in the task.
  • The French Klaxoon allows us to use the brainstorming tool and the functions of the "agile" e-learning platform. This solution not only offers the opportunity to interact with participants live, but also to add materials for self-study, such as articles or videos. Participants can post task solutions or give feedback on the task - which allows full interaction of students. The Klaxoon quiz also has several options to choose from. In addition to common single and multiple choice questions, there are 7 other ways you can do.

These platforms are a list of only a few of the most popular quiz tools used in teaching processes. There are many more and it is impossible to mention them all, or at least keeping our principle of a pleasing reader of the format. As we can see, however, they are all quite similar and in fact it depends on our individual preferences which of them will become our favorite.
