Implementing remote work. Success not everywhere.

We have been struggling with the pandemic for more than a year. During this time, many companies have successfully switched to remote working mode. However, not all have succeeded in implementing this solution. Such an action requires appropriate technical solutions, but not only that. The mental attitude of employees towards home office is also crucial. It is worth starting by ensuring that remote employees are managed in the right way, as well as developing a communication system. This is a lesson to be learned on the employees-managers axis.

Already at the beginning of this transition, we saw problems with managing remote work, delegating tasks to employees, etc. The second issue turned out to be communication itself. Managers were thrown in too deep, and employees were inundated with emails, phone calls practically overnight. A gumtree.pl report shows that 7 out of 10 employees declare that their bosses call them after working hours. For these reasons, work efficiency has declined.

Observing companies that were already properly technologically prepared in solutions before the whole virus situation, they are doing better with the spread of home office. We're talking here, first of all, about applications and tools that make it possible to present the entire management process in a convenient and readable form for the team. It's important for an employee to know what tasks he or she is supposed to perform, to have at hand the necessary documentation to complete a given task, and to be able to confirm this completion to managers as well as co-workers. This transparency of remote activities is a key element in the efficient management of a distributed enterprise. Tools arranging remote work vary: from free applications, quite truncated in functions, to paid and fully comprehensive versions, having a whole bunch of functions necessary for the smooth functioning of the company, such as "online onboarding" - that is, a fully structured process of remote deployment of a new team member to work.
