Why understanding your emotions is important... a few words about emotional intelligence

06.07.2020

Regardless of the situation, it's always worth understanding your emotions. Whether we can name them, determine where they came from, and even whether we can control our emotional impulses is the quotient of emotional intelligence. It is this intelligence that pushes us to develop - in both professional and personal matters - it also allows us to create good-quality relationships.

Not everyone has a high level of emotional intelligence. We are often taught something quite the opposite - suppressing emotions, forgetting about them, not listening to them. This is a mistake. It's worth taking a holistic approach to yourself and, just as we care about the immune system, it's also worth taking care of our "emotional means".

Well developed emotional intelligence is also necessary if you want to manage people. Greater self-awareness, learning about processes occurring in groups or the ability to establish qualitative relationships - all this will translate into the quality of the atmosphere in the company and positive results.

So what is important in developing emotional intelligence?

  • Noticing
Every being on earth is torn apart by a whole range of emotions. So it's worth noting them, both at home and with others. Try to name these emotions, guess where they came from - being aware of your emotions is the basis for working on emotional intelligence.
  • Empathy
Social competences also contribute to emotional intelligence. Whether we can make friends and later maintain a good relationship testifies to it a lot. Social awareness is also important in managing emotions, i.e. seeing other people and their emotions. Empathy can help you understand the other side and make your life easier- this issue is invaluable in all kinds of conflicts or misunderstandings.
  • You
We spend our whole lives together, so we would like to like each other - with this approach one lives and is healthy and enjoyable. Consider the level of self-esteem. Is it permanent? Is it dependent on external factors? Can you name these factors?
Working on yourself can be inconvenient for some- it's a fact. However, leaving your comfort zone always pays off!
  • Practice
…makes perfect, also in terms of emotional skills. It is therefore worth exploring this topic - reading, exercising, training - to use the newly learned techniques in practice and make our lives more effective. Interestingly, research by Jane Wheeler shows that trainees in emotional intelligence training have not lost their skills even after a long time.
It is therefore a very profitable investment!
